Technical Project Lead – Optical Communications (Space Systems)
Location: Vicenza, Italy (Relocation support available)

The Opportunity
You will join an advanced engineering organisation working at the forefront of space-based laser communication technologies, delivering cutting-edge solutions for satellite networks, high-throughput data transport, and emerging quantum-secure communication systems.
In this role, you will guide the technical execution of major development programmes, coordinate with international technology partners, and ensure that complex optical communication systems are delivered to the highest engineering and aerospace standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical planning and execution of advanced space communication projects
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across optics, mechanics, electronics, and software
Translate customer requirements into actionable system-level specifications
Maintain close technical alignment with international R&D partners
Ensure compliance with aerospace quality, safety, and reliability standards
Identify technical risks and define mitigation strategies
Present technical updates to internal stakeholders and external partners
Support system integration, testing, and validation activities
Essential Skills and Experience
Strong technical background in laser communications, photonics, or optical systems
Proven experience as a Technical Lead or Systems Engineer in the space sector
Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering projects end-to-end
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams
Understanding of optical communication terminals, payload development, or high-precision opto-mechanical systems
Educational Background & Skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or related field
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities
Ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative technical environment
A PhD in Photonics, Laser Communications, or a related field is an advantage
